1. General information
The goal of this subject is for the student to understand the Spanish economic reality, applying economic language correctly and precisely and managing to interpret the productive system within the framework of the institutional system in which it isdeveloped.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), such that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement: Goal 8 -Decent work and economic growth-, Goal 9 -Industry, innovation and infrastructure-, Goal 10 - Reduction of inequalities-.
This subejct provides basic knowledge in relation to the formulation of proposals on the labor market.
2. Learning results
Passing this subject will enable the student to:
- Understand the process of economic development and structural change of the Spanish economy.
- Analyze the determinants of the growth model and the main imbalances of the Spanish economy.
- Know the institutional aspects and the configuration of the Spanish public sector.
- Be familiar with the economic policy instruments in the context of the European Union.

4. Academic activities
1. Theoretical sessions. The pedagogical objective is the study of basic economic concepts and notions in order to understand the role and importance of economics in the interpretation of reality.
2. Practical sessions (including monographic workshops on economic facts of interest). The pedagogical objective is the deepening of the existing connection between the theoretical contents of the subject and its application to the economic reality.
In both types of sessions, some of them may be requested to be prepared in advance and autonomously.
The teaching methodology will be based on permanent dialogue and discussion.
5. Assessment system
Those who regularly attend the learning activities will be able to pass the subject:
- Taking two face-to-face tests throughout the term on the interpretation of economic facts about the Spanish reality, a partial and a final one (respectively, 20% and 50% of the final grade).
- Carrying out and presenting individually and/or in groups two case studies (30% of the final grade).
(Those who do not regularly attend the learning activities may pass the subject by obtaining, at least, a mark of 5 out of 10 in a written test on the interpretation of economic facts about Spanish reality on the date established by the calendar of exams of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Work for the ordinary exams (and, identically and eventually, in the extraordinary exams).
